Alex Michaelides has strike again. I absolutely love his new book.

Altought I found it a little long to start, the rest was amazing. I liked how he used reference of The Silent Patient in this book. It was quite shocking.

Again, the end shocked me. The entire book, I tried resolving the murders. Yet, the answer was completly different than what I expected. All the lies, all the past stories, wow.

It is delicious. I love Alex Michaelides.

This book had sooo many loose ends. Is there a sequel coming? I had a great deal of difficulty believing how the story resolved, primarily because of the diary/letter that was presented as being from the killer.   It's not badly written, but this just didn't work for me and I was disappointed and unsatisfied.

This was not my favourite, but was also not the worst. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

The world building was just aight. The academia vibes were definitely there, but not in a dark and gothic way. I also felt like there just didn’t seem to be enough of it. And the story itself was a lot more detectively inclined than I anticipated. This isn’t a bad thing, I just wasn’t mentally prepared for it.

Characterization was less hit and more miss. Mariana was fine, but Zoe never felt fully fleshed out. She was bland, even when she arguably wasn’t, and she didn’t impress me. Fosca was so oily he felt fake and I didn’t get the fascination, Sangha was immediately unlikeable, and we were supposed to take Fred at his naive little word that he was clairvoyant with premonitions? Ok then.

For what I want to say was about 2/3 of the novel, I was under the impression that the story I was reading was building towards something. For all intents and purposes, there was supposed to be a large climax that we were going to come across upon our reading journey but that did not happen. Instead, the pacing was aces in terms of execution right up until the end when it became astonishingly abrupt. It just whizzed by so fast that I felt like I was driving and told to look out the window at something before ultimately coming to the conclusion that it wasn't worth turning around to get a second glimpse at.

So basically, even though I sped through this, I did not feel satisfied upon finishing, and that's a shame.
