This is my first time ever reading a Stephen King book. I enjoyed just about every bit of it. A bit of slice of life, creepiness, and fantasy is a great way to describe this book. Certain parts of the book I imagine will be amazing to see on screen — which I recently found out that it will be made into a movie. So I am excited for that.

The first half was so so so good. But the last , and i love fantasy, was just ok for me. I felt it was predictable and a bit disjointed in places, but overall it was a fun read! Not my favorite king novel but i am happy i read it!

What a wonderful, magical read. Stephen King takes us on quite the journey! The book is filled with the good, the bad, the ugly, and the beautiful. King takes his readers on a spellbinding tour through a world of unique people and creatures with both common and uncommon issues. He weaves into his tale the struggle between good and evil and how different individuals deal with and manage the good and the bad that lives in all of us. At the very heart of his tale is love and acceptance and the bound between a boy and his dog.

I think Stephen King is a great author, but this book was not for me. The pace felt very very slow - the description of the book talks of a secret world, but readers won’t learn anything of this world until about 200 pages in. Another review mentioned there being both too much and too little content and I agree. I didn’t feel attached to any characters, except for the pupper. I also found Charlie to be a very repetitive narrator. I love the concept of the book, experiencing all the fairy tales we grow up with while saving another world, but I didn’t feel excited or engaged while reading.

"A brave man helps Cowards bring presents."
"Good people shine brighter in dark times."

I really enjoyed this book. The middle had some spots that were kinda long and drawn out, but it was a fun book. I enjoyed how King wove some nuggets from fairy tales and other gothic novels. Adventure Fantasy more than thriller but there were some dark parts too.

"It’s the stories of our childhood that make the deepest impressions and last the longest."

This is different for Stephen King. A dark fantasy book with some horror, paranormal, thriller and time travel. I liked the idea of that especially time travel. The novel follows Charlie a boy who befriends a dog and his grouchy neighbor next door. After his neighbor passes Charlie inherits his property and a key into another realm. Charlie time travels to save his dog who is getting old and is also dying. He has to battle between good vs. evil. The book started out slow which I liked and I did enjoy Charlie's character development. The friendship he developed with his neighbor and his dog as enduring and heartbreaking. Towards the middle of the book I lost interest because I felt like there wasn't a good enough reason for Charlie be going through all this. I mean, it was for the dog but at the same time I got a little uninterested in all the paranormal activity and horror. I wished the horror elements were incorporated better in the story.
