Silly, predictable but entertaining and fun. Likeable characters.

Love this series!

This series is amazing. Love the variety of “imperfect” characters. We have deaf, scarred, disabled, neurodivergent, etc MMCs. The FMCs also have a wide variety of backstories and things to overcome as well.

I am very impressed with Neva’s trigger warnings at the beginning of the books and her care with the wide variety of issues she covers throughout the series.

If you love mafia books, I think you’ll love these. They vary in violence and spice from book to book but there isn’t a book I didn’t like. I love that you get to learn more about the world from book to book but that each book is technically a standalone. Each book switches POV from MMC to FMC.

I scarfed all the books up and I can’t wait to see what else Neva writes

honestly so refreshing. more representation of disabilities, please and thank you!

I chose this book because of the cover and honestly, the cover was definitely better than the book. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either.

I’m a huge fan of the dark mafia romance genre, and while this book technically fits into that category, I’d honestly call it more of a romantic comedy. Dark? Not at all. Funny? Hell yes.

There isn’t a lot of depth to the story. There’s no real angst. Sure, Nina is forced to be with Roman, but she’s upset for about five minutes before she just... goes with it. There’s no buildup of emotion, fear, or mystery. Everything stays pretty surface level.

That said, I guess it has its place. It’s a quick, easy read with some really well-written steamy scenes.

This was my first book by this author, so I’m not sure if all her books are like this or if this is just her style. I might give the next one a try to see.

‘Painted Scars’ is a fast-paced marriage of convenience story that follows Nina, an artist trying to keep her father safe after he steals money from the mafia, and Roman, a mafia don who, after an attempt on his life, is after a wife to help keep his position as the Familia leader. I am a sucker for this type of book; I will devour them every single time, and this was exactly what I needed right now. Is it, by any means, the best piece of literature there is? Definitely not. Did I still enjoy reading this book? Absolutely! The only thing that ruined it for me was Nina at the end of the book. I agree that Roman didn’t respect her choice, but still, that was way too much! Overall, it was an okay book, but with great scenes and an okay storyline!

One thing about short and fast-paced books is that you don't know how much time has passed since you started reading. (well... You also miss all your important tasks and move way past the deadline, but that's not relevant.)
I read in the intro of the book "Cold Blooded Killer". I thought the FMC was a cold-blooded killer and the MMC was in a mafia. And I was like 'okay, refreshing..' However, I later discovered it was nothing like that. *sighs in mafia*

I honestly thought the book was written a little on the poor side, cos I found some punctuation mistakes and sometimes the dialogues felt like I was reading a children's book. Some lines were on the cringe side. There was no overall character development. (except... Nina turned from a sarcastic woman at the start to a squealing teenager towards the end.) The characters didn't even get to know each other before pouncing on each other to have sex. Who am I kidding? They didn't get to know each other properly the whole book. I don't even know any of their eye colour for Fuck's sake!!

Okay, now that the rant is over... The book did get me squealing and blushing, and giggling. I genuinely liked Roman and Nina (at least till the part she decided to randomly embrace the stupid girl she was acting like). The divorce gave the book more length and plot. I didn't know this was the book that had the viral line "Marry Me. And I'll stop the war". Honest to god, I danced at that part. The side characters were also pretty nice. They added a nice little touch.

I would rec this to you if u wanna get out of a reading slump. It is perfect for that.

this isn’t mind-blowing, but it has that wattpad nostalgia charm. a decent choice if you’re looking for a quick, easy mafia marriage-of-convenience read.
