Thank you so much, suspension of disbelief! I enjoyed this book so, so much 💖. First of all, as a Mafia dark romance reader (and investigator), it took me some time to give this one a try. My mutuals told me this was bad, you see! Never underestimate how a bad comment about a book can make you expect the absolute worst, and then when you don't find that, it helps you be able to truly appreciate the book without expectations. It's not the best fucking book out there, and it doesn't need to be. What a good palate cleanser this was. Such an entertaining quick read!

Subtle spoilers below as always!
The protagonists were not the typical mafia leads, and the arranged marriage wasn't either. (Loved that he needed what he needed, and he was totally ready to say "pa' tu casa!" when it was finally over.) I liked how cunning she was and that he literally could not have found out about the [redacted] without her. He needed her help and not the other way around. Love that! At the same time, I liked how the topic of his injury was treated! Bravo ⭐. She doesn't care, man; baddies wouldn't! / The third-act breakup? WAS AMAZING! That's what I like to see; I CAN'T EVEN!!!! The little part with the mom at the end made me cry and healed something in me. She cares so much... no one teaches mothers how to be moms, and everyone should remember that. Subtle but beautiful!
I tend to hate endings in books; that's my red flag. This time though, call me fucking impressed. Loved it. - Also... The plot was good too? I don't know about my besties, but I was invested as hell in the uncle's plot. I think it comes down to the question: do you care about the characters? And yes, I did. Not only that, but I also liked the way the author portrayed the problematics, both in the leads relationship and in the book in general. I was stunned when only one problem remained at the 80% mark and didn't know how on earth she would stretch it to cover what was left. Incredible. It killed me when he asked how she was doing to one of his men and then told the guy, "Make sure if a man ever gets in the picture, I don't ever find out." Like... respecting her agency? Check. Not wanting to bother her? Check. Knowing himself enough to be self-aware? Check, and at the same time, knowing that doing what he would really want to do wouldn't be okay? Check. I just can't with him, honestly. I mean, "dangerous Kotik" can't be a better nickname for him. What a man. The mom said it better than anyone: "Stay with a man who would slay another man for you," or something. You guys know I will never quote literally.😂
