BEST. BOOK. EVER.
This is my first mafia book. And you know what? I love it.
No such thing as "You aren’t like other girls"
Of course there is a cliche where the female lead Nina described as tiny and male lead Roman is tall as hell. But this makes my short height self happy ahah :) 🤍
It felt like reading wattpad, in a good way. It took me back to where I read wattpad mafia fictions all day long, and I loved it. Since it is debut, I will ignore some flat writing in chapters, I am sure it will get juicier with each book in the serie.
This book will get you out of your reading slump. Some chapters cracked me up so much, my cheeks hurt from laughing! I am glad I picked up this book, Roman Petrov and Nina Grey won a special place in my heart.
It is fast-pacing, witty with badass male lead and even more badass female lead! You will love this book if you looking for some laugh, nostalgia like me.
I loved how Roman supported Nina about her trauma through whole book.
I loved how Nina supported Roman about his trauma through whole book.
They supported, understood and accepted each other, it warmed my heart so much. ❤️

3.5 ⭐️ Based on stuff I heard this was better than I was expecting! I actually liked Roman and Nina, despite it feeling like an insta love! They had many cute moments and Roman was actually sweet which I wasn’t expecting ether! The book had a plot, even tho it felt little rushed but surprisingly compered to it being a short novella ending wasn't as rushed as other short novellas I read! Overall not bad, fast read, so I continue with the series

Average in terms of mafia romances, but it was definitely fun. Read in 1 sitting so it couldn’t have been that bad, plus I will be continuing the series.

Mafia plus arranged marriage? Just like wine and cheese.
Well I am having mixed feeling about this book and this author. I know that this is a debut book, so I am going to go a easier than I normally would.
First, this was not what I would call a "mafia" book. Maybe you could call it light or mild mafia and get away with that, but I think that might be pushing it. The story was very cliche and predictable. It had nothing new to offer if you are a mafia fan and have read ANY mafia books at all.
There was some good banter by Nina that made me smile, and I found her character humorous at times. Roman was a wimp both in action and the bedroom. I didn't see the strong, hardcore, possessive, swoonworthy male traits that you think you would get in the MMC. Okay, he was tall, very tall, and she was short, very short. That was made pretty plain many times.
There were a number of story lines that the author could have taken and ran with and she could have tapped into some real drama and emotion...i.e. Brian. But other than at the end of the book, which again I felt fell short, we just didn't get much.
It is written in dual POV, but while reading, it almost feels like it is written in third person. No emotions come out, no character build up or growth, really stiff personalities other than a bit of humor, clipped scenes, 2-5 sentence paragraphs, and the story would suddenly jump hours, days or weeks ahead with no detail and no new paragraph. Roman and Nina went from hate to love with no passion buildup and no foreplay.
I am usualy the "less is more" type when reading. I don't like rambling, repetiveness or long inner monologues. I do love long books though, and very rarely do I find a novella that I actually get anything out of. Give me a 500, 600, 700 page book and I can be in heaven IF there is continual action, emotion, twists and character development page after page. This one was not a novella, but it felt like one. It was definitely on the lesser side of less. I just needed more layers, a few more levels to the story and the characters.
So I am giving this book a 2.75. I may try the author again down the road and see if there is growth in the writing.
For reference this is how I rate my reads:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - absolutely loved, re-read definitely
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - really enjoyed, well written, re-read maybe
⭐️⭐️⭐️- liked it, but just liked it
⭐️⭐️- I made it through, but just barely
⭐️- really?? dnf
