Not what I was expecting

While an interesting read, this was definitely not what I was expecting when I read the blurb. This story is is filled with angst, drama, more drama and misunderstandings. The relationship between Julia and Adam was one rollercoaster ride and happened mostly ‘off-screen’ except for a few steamy moments between them. The story jumps from the first time they have sex to weeks or months later in their relationship will little explanation for what took place. Next we know Adam is practicing with his team after another surgery and recovery period. He is waiting for the drug test to come back clean as the last hurdle to being back in the team when he learns on the news his results come back that he tested positive for performance enhancing drugs and his girlfriend Julia is to blame for luring him into dipping. What!? I enjoy some drama and angst in romance books, but this is way too much for me.

For a sports romance this had very little elements about hockey in it except for Adam trying to come back from a knee injury that happened prior to this book, and him trying to overcome a smear campaign against him to keep him off the team.

I received an ARC from the author, but since this book has been out for several years I read it through my KU subscription. From reviews on this and other published works of the author it is clear she has a very loyal fan base who love her writing style, unfortunately it just not to my taste. Her characters and stories are definitely interesting and engaging.

this was very much not good. I felt like there was literally nothing happening. I have no idea what I read. characters were flat, plot was essentially nonexistent. I should have abandoned this. essentially zero spice. total waste of my time

Audiobook and E book don't match

The story is ok. But there are too many differences between the audiobook and the ebook for this to be cohesive.

Adam is a hockey player with a damaged knee. After finding his fiancé with his brother, he goes on a drink binder and is in car accident. Julia has had a crush on Adam since they were kids and when she sees he's been in an accident, she shows up at the hospital. It was kind of insta-love after years of knowing each other. All of a sudden, a light turns on and he realizes his feelings for Julia. Then there's the brother, ex-fiancé and another dude who are all against Adam and Julia. Things just keep going wrong and get rather annoying TBH... wanted to go through the pages and punch the ex. lol
