I would rate this a 3.5
I had watched the Netflix series of The Queen's Gambit and enjoyed it. Made me want to read the book. I did like the show better than the book only for a few, mostly one, reason. The main plot is playing Chess. With the book you hear Bet  Harmons thoughts about her moves where as the show didn't go into every detail whereas you just watched the game take place. However there were times I didn't know what Beth was thinking exactly or how she felt. That's where I did enjoy the book more. I don't know if I would have enjoyed the book if it wasn't for me watching the show already. The show and the book followed very closely. I might would recommend watching the show first if you don't know about Chess.

This book was beautifully written and difficult to put down. The Netflix series was pretty true to the book and I feel like most of the changes they made were for the better considering Beth’s age throughout the story.
I definitely did not expect there to be sexual assault between two minors in the first 15 pages. It was about a page and a half.
