This story is definitely intense and totally hooked me in from the start. I know very little about chess but this book makes want to learn to play and to understand the game like Beth does. Beth is a very interesting character and in some parts I could totally see myself in her. An amazing book!

I didn't understand a lot of the chess jargon, but it was enjoyable despite that. Not very clear when/how time is (or isn't) passing.

I wasn't even all the way through the first chapter. I decided to put it down because of some sexual content I wasn't a fan of. I may end up picking it up again in the future, but this isn't the book I need right now at this time in my life.

There are a lot of detailed descriptions of chess matches in this book. The character's story is interesting, but the description of the games themselves wasn't enjoyable for me as someone who doesn't play chess. I'd think that for someone who understands the game, these parts would be really good, however.
