Listening with My Heart: A story of kindness and self-compassion by Gabi Garcia – This is on kindle unlimited. A longer picture book, so I would recommend for little readers who have a longer attention span per page. But very sweet! Happy Reading!

Happy Random Acts of Kindness Day! I felt this book was perfect—the subtitle is “A story of kindness and self-compassion”. I fell in love with little Esperanza immediately! She has such tender and kind heart! She looks out for others and freely offers kindness and friendship. And I really related to her when she messed up her lines in the school play and then felt awful! I love that this story of kindness included self-compassion and that Esperanza recognized she wasn’t being kind to herself and reversed that! The illustrations are so bright and happy! This is a winner!

Beautifully teaches how self-talk should match the kindness we show to our friends.

Be kind to yourself, not just others

This book has a great message for kids. It’s easy to be kind to others, but we can often be unkind to ourselves. We must accept our failures and learn from it. There’s always tomorrow to try it again. Even as an adult, I can learn the lesson about self-compassion.

Just purchased this for my friend's 5-year old and think this is a very sweet book with a very good message. I love the ways this book enacts inclusion and gives examples of how to enact compassion in the everyday.

A picture book that details the importance of showing ourselves the same kindness and compassion we show others.

Very sweet. Young Esperanza is nervous about her lines in the school play, but makes sure she has time to be kind to the motherless kitten and befriend the lonely new kid. When she trips, literally and over her lines, she is unkind to herself. She takes it as a sign that she should "be the friend she needs."

Cute kids, great art, wonderful message.

Recommended for at home read alouds. Author is a public school counselor and former teacher.
