I enjoyed this quiet little book about friendship, family and fitting in. Darius was a lovely and relatable main character. Unfortunately I was a bit bored at times and nothing really special happened but it was enjoyable nonetheless.

I really appreciated how this book held a mirror up to a lot of things I struggle with, while also introducing me to aspects of the world I knew nothing of before. I really appreciated some aspects of the writing style that I know others find repetitive and annoying. I think because the book takes place squarely inside Darius’s head, he’s very biased on the topic of himself, and a lot of it is about things we leave unspoken. So it makes perfect sense that the version of him we see is his cringiest, nerdiest, most depressed self. At times I wanted to tell him to get a grip and try changing meds again because what he’s taking is not working imo.  But then when exactly what he needed was gentleness and recognition from friends and family, it reminded me that at my cringiest, nerdiest, and most depressed times, I need gentleness and recognition too.
