A beautiful story about Persian culture, mental health, and family dynamics. Darius learns it’s okay not to be okay - and this story drives home the importance of getting the help you need, even in spite of views of antidepressants in various societies. So wonderful that these books are around for today’s YA readers.

This was a really sweet book and I loved seeing what life is like for people in Iran. It was very easy to read and I really loved it.

we love comfy male friend affection. I want to put Sohrab and Darius in my pocket.
Darius the Great Is Not Okay has so many wonderful things happening. There is a coming of age story at the center but there is so much more happening regarding culture and familial relationships and mental illness. Somehow, Khorram did not get lost in the mix of so many important topics but instead wove them together to create a beautiful story relatable to many readers. Highly recommended.
This was a heart warming, a heart breaking and engaging character-driven story. I loved reading about Darius as he connected more with his Persian side and explored life as a whole. Watching him grow, repair his relationships, form new friendships and learn more about himself was a delight.
My absolute favourite thing about this story was how depression was shown in this book. It’s not in your face, dramatised or even romanticised (the worst). It’s subtle, it’s the little things. It’s all the moments that add up. Most of all, it’s true and realistic and relatable.
I highly recommend this story.
