I can see why Rule is considered to be a founding member of the true crime genre. She was thorough in her investigation of this case. The humanity of all the people involved is clear. I just can’t get into true crime. It’s depressing and makes me too conscious of the absolute horrors that humans are capable of acting out. If you like the genre, though, you’ll like her books. I imagine her books all delve into the psyche of the killers, the way she did in this story.
