I can see why Rule is considered to be a founding member of the true crime genre. She was thorough in her investigation of this case. The humanity of all the people involved is clear. I just can’t get into true crime. It’s depressing and makes me too conscious of the absolute horrors that humans are capable of acting out. If you like the genre, though, you’ll like her books. I imagine her books all delve into the psyche of the killers, the way she did in this story.

This was not my favorite Ann Rule, but it still kept me intrigued through all the stories. The main story was captivating and horrifying all in one. If you like true crime - you’ll enjoy this book.

Kinda wished she had titled it Arrive Alive instead but still solid work as always

A lot of this book's content feels especially dated considering our current social / political climate. At the same time, Rule continues to offer a valuable perspective on criminal investigation and an empathetic eye toward the cases she covers.

A very gripping set of stories. The main one is amazingly heartbreaking. I wasn't sure where it would go, but when the murder occurred I was shocked.
The shorter stories were also very interesting. I actually have ran across and spoken to one or two of the later subjects of the book, some 25-30 years later.
