I had such a great time reading this book. It gave me all the de ja vu vibes to my high school experience in drama and participating in musicals. The way she described the dynamic of the cast...the family vibe you have even if you are not the best of friends...the interlopers who show up to be in the musicals...it all felt very relatable. The relationship triangle she created felt very real as well having watched my own teens navigate relationships over text message.

I liked the characters. I wish we got to know Brandi and Raina a bit more. Maybe there are hopes for additional books centered around the squad??

A delightful story, it's as much about platonic and familial relationships and learning to take risks as a young person as it is about romance. The novel is wonderfully funny and irreverent (loved all the fucks!). It's Kate's story, but I did long to see more of Andy and Matt's points of view. If there's a (minor) flaw, it's that I think as Kate "competes" with Andy over their communal crush, she doesn't sufficiently reflect on how many more romantic possibilities and choices she has as a straight person in high school compared to her gay friend and how much higher the stakes are for him. Loved it as I have every Becky Albertalli book I've read so far. Will probably reread at some point.
