I really loved the first book in this series, but ultimately this one was just boring... I didn't connect with the characters until too late in the book, and it felt like this book dragged and suffered from middle book syndrome. :(

Damn, I'm still in shock. I just couldn't believe this actually happened the way it did. This book is so vivacious, but in the best way.
For those not familiar with St. Clair's writing style: it might seem a bit weird at first, but I actually love it! I've read multiple books by her (the Persephone x Hades series and, of course, this one) and what I've noticed is that she combines older, almost classical language with fantasy language and a touch of modern words ;)
While I enjoyed the first book, I have to admit this second one was definitely better. There's so much more depth in the characters and in the world St. Clair has built.
I seriously can't wait for book 3. I need to know what happens with Isolde and Adrian!

definitely not impressed by this one and im not gonna continue the series either. i liked Isoldeās development with figuring out who she is and that stuff, but others than that i still dont get the relationship between her and Adrian at all. those small moments i feel that it could get interesting, some damn smut scene came up every other moment and took away all the focus and point of it. i finished it, i saw potential but didnt really enjoy this either.
3/5 ā
i actually dreaded reading this book & could not wait for it to be over. this book could have been 150 pages & i still wouldāve understand the whole thing. isolde is now pissing me off & she isnāt the warrior she was in the first book. like she would get mad at adrian for no reason & he literally canāt help it. she was whiny & annoying. the ending was dumb & i feel like the author ran out of ideas so she just threw in a bunch at the end to try & make it a ācrazy endingā like just pick one

(Writing this review months later but) I love the intensity of Isolde and Adrian and how we get to see more of their relationship develops. Though, if my memory serves me right, I didnāt enjoy this book as much as the first because this one, though she was meant to come off as a strong FMC, Adrian was written or at least came off to me as much more patriarchal and dismissive or demeaning of Isolde in this book. I know heās supposed to be mysterious for XYZ reasons, but sometimes he would scold Isolde for doing something that seemed pretty reasonable to me. It also felt like Isolde was having to be rescued a lot more versus finding her own footing and establishing herself, which maybe that was the point of this second book with her being away from home? Unsure .
Iām excited to read the next book though whenever it happens! I do really enjoy this authorās world building abilities and how descriptive she writes - I feel I can picture everything.
