Totally insane. One of my favorite things I’ve read all year!

Great writer - but for some reason, I was a little bored by the plot.

Very repetitive and honestly if you don't want to read a book about a spoiled idiot I would skip this. Something about it brought me a bit of delight while I was reading it

to his credit, mccarthy steers clear of any flimsy character exposition, conjuring a protagonist who is less a person and more of a proxy for man's desire to control and manipulate the conditions of his life. it's a neat concept, reminiscent of charlie kaufman's SYNECHDOCHE, NEW YORK and leguin's LATHE OF HEAVEN, both of which are better than this book.

I've never read a book like this and doubt I ever will again. It was painful to read at times but I couldn't look away either. Never have I found a protagonist so selfish and so out of touch with reality but I still felt that I could understand him, at least until the last 2 or 3 chapters. So bizarre.

This was a very fun read, very consumable but also sort of dazzling in how it makes you inhabit the perspective of the main character, whose view of the world turns out to be pretty interesting and twisted (yet in some ways understandable if misguided). The prose is a cinch, the ideas fun, and the story a train wreck that you initially can't imagine will be the case but then suspect will be the case and can't pry your eyes away from. This was a better (if also probably much easier to write) book than McCarthy's C, and the two together definitely make me want to keep an eye on this author.

This book is an experience, and it is never-ending like the figure of the number eight.
