I love Cal and Nellie but man this one wasn’t my fav. I still loved it but also gosh I wish
it hadn’t taken til the last hour of the book (on audio) for them to finally be real/honest with each other. I wish had gotten to see a little more of the true redemption of their relationship, of Cal telling her the truth about some of the past rather than it being all off page. A little more of the coming together in love rather than fake hate.
But despite that, still did love it just not as much as some of DP’s other books.

The amount of football puns in this book is unnecessary.

This has been my favorite calamity MT story so far — and it was still just ok. I enjoyed it overall though!

This was a childhood rivals/enemies to lovers story… sort of? Cal & Nellie went to high school together & did not get along… they have hated each other for 20 years. Nellie now works for Cal’s best friend & cal is retiring from the NFL, and both are relocating to Calamity. Nellie makes up her mind to drive Cal out of town.

Cal however is NOT the jerk he appears to be (still not sure if it’s an act or if he was just being shown by the media in a certain light). Some of the stories absolutely made me cry. The shock for me was how fast they jumped into bed —
and then finding out it’s been happening for years
? Their relationship was a TON of push and pull & it got irritating how they both waffled so much & kept pushing each other away. It had one of my favorite tropes though:
there hasn’t been anyone since you 🥰

I also appreciated how they both eventually acknowledged that they were idiots in high school and it’s not how they SHOULD have acted, but that it was definitely not surprising given their age and maturity level. That alone felt really mature and I appreciated it.

The time jump at the end made me so annoyed at her parents —
three years of visits and seeing cal dote on your daughter and grandson wasn’t apparently enough to see cal’s real kindness, but a TV story was? Be so for real
