A Wizard of Earthsea is a wonderfully unique story in the genre of epic fantasy. A quaint and comforting story of a hero going on a journey to greatness, taking their first step into becoming a person worthy of that heroism. It is a brutal examination of pride, youthful arrogance and severe consequences. A tale that can teach a valuable lesson to readers. A perfect story for young readers. Ursula K. Le Guin's prose is very good. Her storytelling is comforting and pleasant, and is perfectly suited to this story. Her ability to weave nuance in every page is a delight.

While I can see the beauty of this story, I found to be a moderately enjoyable experience. Le Guin's worldbuilding journey seemed to be filled with the names of too many meaningless places. Apart from the main character, no other character seemed to be well developed. This is a very focused and narrow story about one person. While her plot is quote simplistic, the execution is very good.

A Wizard of Earthsea feels like a quintessential story that all fantasy readers must experience. Le Guin's approach to storytelling is remarkably unique. I look forward to more of these stories.

Beautiful and elemental. The Shelved by Genre podcast has some great episodes on it, which closely reflect my own feelings. The Jungian nature of the story is very moving to me, to this day.

I thought this would be 3 stars throughout, but the final third really amped it up and the conclusion was so deeply satisfying. Ursula is just brilliant. Ged is a dynamic character and the ground this book spans is astounding yet believable. So much happens here. I'm really looking forward to the next 5 books in the series!

This entire book felt like i was reading a historiography and not the life of a character I could get invested in. Feels too fast and too removed for me to really grasp, though there were some nice characters moments that imply the upcoming books are much better.

Finally I get around to reading this book and it was great! The writing style was instantly familiar and easy to get into and it had such an old fashioned fantasy feel to it that I loved.
