I really went back and forth on whether or not to give this book a 3 or 4 star rating. If possible, I probably would have given it a 3.5 out of 5, but given that 3.5 star ratings are not an option, I opted for a 3 star rating with this novel as opposed to employing my normal rating round up strategy. The major thing that bugged me about this novel was the pacing. Le Guin wrote at such a pace as if to suggest that shouldn't could be bothered staying one location for longer than 5 pages. Though probably an odd thing to compare it to, the way Le Guin ping ponged our main character from one location to the next had a very last season of Game of Thrones feel to it, where once got the impression that characters were simply teleporting from once place to the next. I am not such a stickler for overly verbose world-building as to require entire chapters devoted the descriptions of a 5x5 foot room, but maybe more than a couple of sentences to describe a period of several months spent traveling over multiple islands would have been nice. Despite my issues with the books pacing, the book is an easy enough read (which can't be said for all Le Guin novels) and compelling enough to be worth recommending.

Groundbreaking bók í fantasy. Kemur með characters sem eru flestir litaðir og ekki bara hvítir eins og í Tolkien. Einni fyrst til að skrifa um að hið illa (mikið með good vs evil) sé eitthvað innan persónanna frekar en ytra (eins og Sauron td). Mjög auðlesin og flott. Aðalkarakterinn er bokstaflega að eltast við og flýja undan sínum eigin skugga sem hann confrontar loks í lokin og viðurkennir að það sé hann.
