I don't even know how to process this one. I feel like it was trying to get at some universal truth about duty and belief and society but I couldn't take it all in.

As usual Mr. Haig created an engaging story with a dark twist.

Not my favourite of Matt Haig’s books but still a nice easy read. Definitely had a lot of layers to it, and most importantly now has me eyeing my Springer Spaniel suspiciously!

It took me until about halfway to really get into the story, but the second half was gripping and emotional. A weird and unique perspective on family life showcasing many human flaws, giving an eerie commentary on the drastically different values we place on humans vs animals, pets vs livestock, etc.

I loved it. I loved the concept of it being from the dog's point of view. It made me both laugh and cry which is what all great media should do. So dark like the dead father's club which I loved. So many Shakespeare references which I thought were done really well and a great retelling.

Usually I only give 4 stars if I liked the book and would recommend it. I’m not sure I’d recommend it to everyone as I don’t think everyone would like it, but it still gets 4 stars from me.

t’s definitely a page turner and kept me hooked for 3 days straight. But boy does it kick you in the emotions at the end. Not many books can get me to cry but this one did! Although I wasn’t entirely convinced by the voice of the dog narrator (weird but it works), I felt bad for the poor guy just trying to save his family. I’ll be spending the rest of the day hugging my dogs. Matt Haig, you really know how to write a story.

What an odd little gem of a book.

My mum got me this for Christmas, and although I know of Matt Haig mainly for The Midnight Library, I’d never heard of this novel, which is one of his early ones.

This was not what I expected - the title and front cover of my edition fooled me into thinking this would be an easy, happy read about a dog - don’t be fooled!! This broke my heart; deals with lots of serious events and trigger warnings, and a lot of adult and mature themes.

The perspective being told through the dog’s (Prince the Labrador) point of view was genius and I loved the childlike perspective that gave us as we didn’t have all the information, and found things out as the book progressed in real time with Prince. He was truly a captivating character and this book really was beautiful with the way it handled grief, love, family, relationships and the love between a dog and their Family.

The end has completely ended me though and I will likely never recover.

I loved the refreshing perspective, especially as the plot unfolded. The ending seemed to throw away what Price was discovering about himself and his purpose for his Family.
