I liked the full cast of characters. I almost like this second in the series more than the first.

Multiple POVs gets you into the heads of the other "cast members". Fast-paced, read it in a day. Dark, gritty and great.

Caine clearly knew where she wanted to go with the story, and the plot itself is interesting enough to keep the reader entertained. However, the beginning of each chapter feels forced and inauthentic. It feels as though she's using filler paragraphs to get to the story she wants to write, which is common in books, especially sequels, but still distracting and frustrating. The choice to use multiple narrators in the second novel does offer interesting perspectives, but it often feels as though the author doesn't know her own characters enough to be writing in their POV. The previous book felt as though the characters were well-rounded and she had a good sense of them, but the sequel feels forced for the majority of the book. The action scenes are still strong, but the narrative parts which start each chapter feel as if the author is struggling -- just trying to propel us into the action. This is fine, and the story survives because she's created an interesting plot, but the filler parts made me consider (more than once) putting the book down altogether.

I definitely prefer the first book, this one felt really slow, and I found Lanny's and Connor's povs so boring :( but when the book picked up it really just blew me away. It was really good near the end when things finally happened but overall pretty good, I would definitely read the next one

Good but nothing especially special. Hated Connor and Lanny's storylines and POVs in this one. I won't be continuing the series because I feel like the story wraps up pretty solidly and it would be a stretch to try and keep this going. Happy with the ending.

This series gives me MAJOR The Girl in Cabin 13 by AJ Rivers vibes. If you liked these, you would love those.
