The second book to this series was a lot more eventful than the first as the two lovers tried to go on with their lives. The twists and turns the book led me through made me want to buy the third book without even finishing the second. The plot twists throughout the book constantly left me on my toes!

First off, I was pleased that this book was double the length as the first one. Seems like the rest of the series will be. It's good because it allows each book to actually grow to its potential.

The romantic in me didn't like how long it took for Sofia to go back to Derek. But the realist part of me did. I like that she left the vamp world behind and tried to move on with her original crush. It screams human life, which was great. Allowed a deep comparison of Derek and Ben for the reader so we can see which way her heart is going to and why. But once she finally realized Ben was not it for her, she went back to the vamp life and back to Derek and this is where I was SO happy. The book was a little slow up till this point.

The one thing that really bugged me the whole way through was how they both kept second-guessing their feelings for each other. LIKE YOU BOTH LOVE EACH OTHER. JUST ACCEPT IT.

Hopefully that will be completely fixed in book three.
Overall still hooked on this series

Ughhhhhhh this series is like a guilty pleasure, but without (enough of) the pleasure part. I am truly embarrassed for reading this. It's a less realistic/believable version of the Twilight series with the worst character development ever. I'm so annoyed because this whole "fated to love each other" bullshit even when the guy is literally the worst person ever is the reason why young girls don't know when they're in abusive relationships. It talks about rape in a cavalier manner. It has the bare bones of something that should be fun, but then veers I these weird directions that just make me feel guilty for continuing. But it's kind of addictive. This series is like a drug - I want to know more but every time I finish reading I feel shittier and shittier and wish I could stop but it feels so good for the moment and then I look at my life and my choices and I hate myself. So. Two stars for the addictive nature, and not for quality.

Entertaining but very predictable

In some parts I would like to ask the author of she was joking! Sofia is just another weak female character that's just too dumb or too naive. The plot and back story is weak too. However as my title says it was a quick read and funny most of the time. Read it in between books and if you can borrow it free like I did.

I didn't like this book at all. I didn't like either of the male love interests or the way the female protagonist justified her feelings. The Vampire love interest continually acted appallingly. I actually gave up on reading it several times and then forced myself to finish it.

Cute.. but Ben annoyed me.

A Shade of Blood is the second installation for the A Shade of Vampire series. I honestly have no idea how many books this thing has.. but I'm determined to get through a bunch of them. They are pretty quick reads - I just wish that the story lines were better with each book. I get that I'm only on the second one but I feel like nothing really happened in it?

In this, you well still see the same people.. but we do get to see Sofia's dad towards the end plus more about the vampire hunters. I guess they will have a bigger part in the next book/the rest of the series.. but at the moment, I think:
1. Her dad is a tool and I hate him.
2. Wow, Ben.. I really do hate you and you don't deserve Sofia.
3. How many guys are going to keep claiming Sofia theirs?
4. Poor Vivienne, she deserves better.

Other than that, Derek is kind of losing his mind because of Sofia. He let her go but he became such a pussy after that. I get that the darkness was slowly taking over him.. but damn, he's weak. Then there's Sofia and Ben, ugh I can't tell you how much I hated them together. I cringed every time they kissed because she is supposed to be with Derek!

Then once she gets back to Derek she kind of overlooks that he almost killed her friend.. and that she almost died from said friend. Then she has the balls to order Claudia around, which was honestly my favorite thing she has done so far. However, I didn't like that there's a hint of him sleeping with said claudia.. It's like he couldn't keep his dick in his pants for what.. a week? Maybe more? Like really??

If she's the love of his life... I'm sure he could've not slept with someone else. Other than that, I'm glad they are together-ish.. but is she going to end up the Queen or something? Like his wife.. or something. I feel like I have all of these questions and not enough information to answer them. I hope I get these soon though.

Omg I loved this book! I liked that it was longer and I loved that we got to see Sofia by herself and standing on her own. I know Ben was traumatized but really he was an ass. I'm glad Sofia left because he didn't deserve her, maybe its that I didn't really get to see him before going to The Shade but I'm not sure why Sofia is friends with him because he seems really shallow and selfish. I know I shouldn't feel bad for Derek because of all the terrible things he did to Ashley, Claudia and everyone else but I do. He was only like that because he loved Sofia so much he just couldn't be the same person without her. I have to give kudos to Sofia for seeing the good in everyone, sometimes it seems like a stretch because wow she really does but its also something I can admire in her. I really wasn't a fan of Vivienne in the first book but she really redeemed herself here. I'm kind of hoping maybe her and Ben? I just think that'd be cute but that's just my wishful thinking! Now onto Sofia's parents. Holy Shitsnacks! She's got an absent hunter dad and a crazy vampire mom. Ahhhhh the drama I foresee is gonna kill me! I can't wait for the third book!

FOR THIS REVIEW AND MORE, CHECK OUT Bumble Bee Books!

Let me preface this by saying this is not a review. This is 100% a rant that is filled with spoilers. Don't read this if you don't want to be spoiled or don't want to hear me rant about a series that you love!!

Okay, so this is the second book in the A Shade of Vampire series. I hated the first book, but I had a feeling that it was going to be one of those series that I love to hate read. I stand corrected.

So this picks up pretty much immediately where book one left off. Ben and Sofia wake up on the beach with a bag of money and a change of clothes from where the vampires released them. They are both still pretty freaked out from the experience (especially Ben and being basically a blood whore for Claudia), so they decide to chill in Mexico for a few days before contacting Ben's parents. PAUSE CAN WE TALK ABOUT THIS FOR A SECOND? Two minors disappear from their family vacation in Mexico and then show back up a month(s??) later and no one notices?? Even weirder is that when they finally do contact Ben's parents, they're like "ok cool you're ok but you need to talk to the police because we reported you missing." Sofia and Ben basically just tell the police that they decided to run away and everyone is basically like "ok cool." TWO MINORS DISAPPEAR IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY AND EVERYONE IS JUST OK WITH IT. OK OK OK

Anyway, so they go back to California and try to be normal teens again except for the fact that now Ben realizes that Sofia cares about Derek and she isn't pining over him anymore. Now he is suddenly enamored with her because he always "knew she was his." FULL STOP BRO. Whatever hotness you had just got erased when you admit that you have cared about her all this time (and even know she loves you!!!) but knew she was end game and decided to play the field until you decide you're ready to settle down for her.

Long story short, Ben is still traumatized over what happened at The Shade and Sofia can't move past it either but for different reasons. They try to have a relationship together but ultimately fail because of how differently they feel about The Shade.

Things are also going bad at The Shade because Derek is freaking out about everything because he misses Sofia. He lays down the iron fist and things start getting really bad. He is also hitting up all sorts of ladies to take his mind off things (even Claudia in her prison cell... Ew). Vivienne knows the real deal about the prophecy about Derek and Sofia, so she knows she has to bring Sofia back (because that sounds like a good idea). Vivienne convinces Sofia to come back and does this weird thing where she gives a bunch of her memories to Sofia because she knows she is going to get captured by the hunters... And of course she does.

Sofia ends up going back to The Shade. Derek is pissed at first because Vivienne is basically dead now because she risked everything to bring Sofia back. Sofia walks in on him getting his vamp on with one of the other slave girls but turns out the girl WAS ACTUALLY A HUNTER DUN DUN DUN.

Ben ends up joining the hunters after Sofia leaves because he is so pissed. He is welcomed with open arms to the hunter complex and even gets to meet the head hunter which turns out to be... SOFIA'S LONG LOST ABSENT FATHER. PLOT TWIST!!!!

Ben spends the rest of the book struggling with helping Sofia's dad and the hunters figure out info from the Shade. He even tortures Vivienne until she puts him in his place on how he is no better than Claudia (SUCK IT BEN). Ben's part of the book ends with everyone still not knowing where The Shade is but knowing they need to find it ASAP.

Sofia spends her time at The Shade being pissed st Derek for being a human and hurting the hunter girl. She ends up talking him into letting her go. She also (after the suggestion from Corrine) decides to find out all about the human population on the island and is shocked at what she finds. She meets a really nice family that has had their dad and brother taken away. Later she finds Claudia walking around with the brother as her slave. Drama ensues. Derek intervenes. More drama.

Sofia is so pissed and hurt with Derek that she can't even deal with him so she ignores him (the bad part is she doesn't even know the worst part-- he's planning another human culling!!!!). Eventually they get over it and FINALLY END UP HAVING SEX. THANK THE LORD. I PAID $3.99 FOR THIS EBOOK AND HAD TO WAIT UNTIL THE SECOND TO LAST CHAPTER TO GET TO THE GOODS. Even though we don't get any details, I'm just glad it finally happened so maybe now they will stop acting like two brooding horny teeangers.

They're all in love now because he took her "maidenhood" (vom) and are back to being lovey dovey. Now that the initial deed is done, they are doing it all over (still no deets) and walking around the penthouse like:

I JUST HAD SEX

That is until Derek's dad walks in (because Lukas told him how Sofia is ruining Derek) and instantly hates her. To make it worse he is all like "I see the girls virgin blood on your bed" and it gets super weird and awkward and I just can't.

Anyway, the book ends with everyone being in turmoil. Lukas is in Egypt with the bad vampire clan. Derek and Sofia admitted their love but now that daddy Novak is back things are going to get bad. Ben is trying to be a hunter.

THEN THE EPILOGUE HAPPENS. Hold on to your parents for this one guys. In the epilogue Lukas is finally meeting the bad vampire leader and his new lady that he has kept hidden from the world. The lady turns out to be Sofia's mom who her dad sent away when she was a kid because she went crazy!!!!!!!!!! Bella Forrest just dropped the mic and walked away.

See? I told you this was a rant. This series is a total guilty pleasure hate read for me, so stay tuned for book three review soon because I just can't quit.
