4⭐️ = Good.
Paperback.
Another book that I enjoyed in this series. A fairly short read , but a fun packed one all the same.
Never a huge storyline in them but that doesn’t matter to me as a cosy read should be just that - cosy.
I’m eventually working my way through all the Hamish and Agatha books - and have been for a few years. I prefer to savour them and not rush.
funny mysterious fast-paced

I had to purchase a used book through amazon as it was not available elsewhere. Now I know why. It’s lacking in the usual appealing quirkiness of this series. No one to like and not a good mystery. And very little of the charming villagers

Oh hamish ❤️
medium-paced

It's been 30 years since I first read this book. I've read all 34 (and counting) Hamish Macbeth books. There's always something to amuse and entertain me in even the lamest entries, and I love the Highlands setting. I'm reviewing and downsizing my book collection, and I have a random dozen or so Hamish Macbeth titles. I decided to reread some of them to see why I kept those specific books.

This is an early Macbeth, so some of the devices that become tiring later on are still relatively fresh, and there is still hope that Beaton will get Priscilla and Hamish together permanently at some point. (Spoiler: Beaton is dead and it still hasn't happened.) There's a lot of Priscilla in this one, which is probably why I kept it.

The glutton of the title is a caricature of glutton - greedy and messy, consuming every food product in her path. She is an overall terrible person, not disliked and murdered simply because she is fat, but the glutton aspect still made me uncomfortable. This one will be moving on to the free shelf at the library.

A lot of misogyny. I'm surprised a woman would write such trash.

Light fluff, for when I'm too tired to read anything more demanding.

For the 7 deadly sins in the title square.

This was an earlier Hamish Macbeth, and very enjoyable. Mostly taking place at the Tommel Castle Hotel with Priscilla Halburton-Smythe, a few locals pop up but they are not central to the story. As always, a fun story and I enjoy spending time with Hamish in Lochdubh.
