I enjoyed this book a lot!

"I could have hurled myself from the cliffs to the hungry waves below, and I stood at their precipice to contemplate it. Perhaps it would feel exhilarating, to sweep through the air, to plummet in its weightless embrace, free for a few glorious, doomed seconds. I was terrified, though, of the icy submersion at the end, my lungs screaming for air in the suffocating salty depths."

This was a good book. It was kinda slow going here and there, but it was pretty interesting for the most part. The atmosphere was great, I could visualize ancient Greece really well... or maybe it's just residual ~~vibes~~ from PJO. I don't know. Anyway, this was a good book.
I really wanted to like this book. The writing was pretty and that’s about it. The men seemed like cardboard cut outs and the women would make just the worst decisions. The ending is just awful. Do yourself a favor and skip this one.

I am a fan of Greek myth, fairytale, and folklore retellings. Overall, I enjoyed this one. The writing was engaging, and I liked having the main characters be women who usually are supporting cast to the men of these stories. With that said, I will agree with other reviewers that this really wasn’t a “feminist” take on this story. It highlighted the suffering of women at the hands of men, that is so often a theme in this genre. However, I did not feel this was a story of these women overcoming their suffering or their situation. Other reviewers had more of a problem with the storyline and the fact that the author “did not do enough” with the original story. If I was more familiar with the story/history of these particular characters, I might have felt the same. This book was fairly slow at times (contributed to my rating), and the direction the author chose for the ending was a bit disappointing. Still worth reading.
