Just as fun as the previous book. I like how the cast of characters in each book so far seems to be fluctuating between Harry’s two biggest problems. Makes me wonder when those two problems become one very big problem.

Another fast moving adventure! There was SO much going on in this book, with at least 2 different major conflicts that weren't related to one other in any way other than Harry was involved in both. I'm going to have a hard time even remembering everything that happened. 😂 The first dozen chapters were all the same very long day.

I loved seeing the Biblical stuff thrown into the mix with the other magical things that exist in Harry's world. The idea that BECAUSE people believe in something, it gains a sort of magical power, like the Shroud of Turin, is really fascinating. It is similar to Harry's use of a pentagram to harm vampires in place of a cross - because he places faith in it, it causes the same harm and provides the same protection as a faith-infused crucifix. I'm really curious as to what actual power the Shroud has - I have to admit, I didn't quite "get" that part, and why Nicodemous needed it for his plague curse. I thought it was really interesting how the 30 pieces of silver were worked into the story, and the noose of the betrayer. The name Nicodemus makes me think of the one from the Bible, the one who climbed the tree to see Jesus, but I'm sure it's not the same person. I'm curious to see what happens in the future with that coin Harry touched and then buried in his basement.

I love that we got some resolution with Susan, even if it is a sad resolution. This book is the first one that I actually felt some emotion between the two - and no, it's not because they actually have an on-screen sex scene. By the way, if you're squeamish about sex scenes, this one is pretty graphic, but maybe it's because I listened to the book and that felt weird and out of place? I'm more used to this series alluding to Harry's sex life, not actually describing him having sex in detail. Anyways, I feel like their relationship felt more real because we got to see them actually spending time together, supporting one another, and having real conversations. I could see finally how they could have had a great life together, but I also get that Susan needs to find a new way to live her life, and this organization of people like her, working for a cause she believes in, seems to be the best way. I get that Harry's goal was to find a way to change Susan back, to save her, but at this point, she's lived this way so long that regardless of whether she ever becomes a vampire or if she gets turned back to human, she's a different person. You can't erase those experiences and memories, and just because she's like this now does not mean she's "broken" and needs to be "fixed" by Harry or anyone else. I hope we see her in the future because she and Harry make a great team, but I understand if we don't.

I love that we got to spend more time with Michael and his family, and met Molly and the other kids. Molly seems like an interesting girl, and I'm looking forward to seeing her grow up. Meeting the rest of the white knights was awesome, and I'm so sad Shiro is gone so soon - he seemed like such a wise, witty guy. His choices make complete sense when you realize he was terminal anyways - and if you're going to die, it might as well be for something you believe in. The image of him as a little old guy being an amazing fighter is so great. I love both his and Sonja's journeys to became knights of the faith. Shiro's Elvis story is just hilarious, and Sonja's was truly a fascinating story of redemption that I hope we hear more about some day. Thank goodness Charity sews bullet-proof material into her husband's armor because I legit thought Michael was dead at one point and was really upset. I can't wait to see who Shiro's sword ends up with and who is called to be the third knight.

I'm getting tired of the red court vampire wars stuff, and I hope this Russian satellite "falling" on Ortega's compound is enough to slow the hatred against Harry for a while. Even though the duel didn't end normally, I feel like he was technically the winner? Or was winning when all the stuff went crazy. And also Ortega and his cronies were cheating. The only good thing that came out of the duel was meeting The Archive (aka Ivy) and her bodyguard/driver/baby-sitter Kincard. Ivy is a fascinating person in that she seems to be fully mortal and is born and ages as a normal human, but is invested with all knowledge, and one day, she will give birth to a daughter and pass on all that knowledge and history to her. Yet she's still a kid who loves kitties. It's both really funny and really sad. Even though Kincaid is referenced as a sort of hired gun, I feel like their connection is deeper than that - he takes good care of Ivy, and is more than just an employee. I hope we see more of them in the future.

We didn't get to see much of Karrin this book, but I love when we did see her because there were small signs of how much her relationship with Harry has changed over the years (and books). When something fishy happens involving him, she TRUSTS him! Even Harry is shocked! And she breaks the rules to help him! I loved meeting Butters, the quirky M.E. who spent time in the psych ward because he found evidence of non-human bodies and wouldn't sweep it under the rug. Having a doctor friend is going to be very convenient for Harry. And I have to mention Johnny Marcone. Yes, he's a bad guy, who does anything to get what he wants. But his big secret seems to be a girl he cares about (a daughter?) in a coma, so maybe he's not all bad. He and Harry work so well together in battle, and have great chemistry.

I'm trying not to go through these books so fast that they all blend together, but that's hard! I already got the next audiobook from the library, but I'm going to listen to a couple other books first, just to help separate them in my mind.

I enjoyed the advances of the meta-story, but this book overall lost momentum for me.
