Good read. I liked this one for starting to see a bigger world story, with the Denarians and the Knights of the Cross. (and I think those are all generally interesting characters to read.) I have slightly mixed feelings about the relationship between Harry and Susan, as I have never really felt a strong basis for WHY they loved each other. and I like Susan fine, somewhat better by this time, but still she just doesn’t have as much depth as I might like. Oh, one other fun thing, because this is a reread, I was glad to meet the Archive. and Thomas did not have a major role here but was amusing to me while he was around.

DID NOT FINISH

This is as far as I could make myself go in the Dresden Files series. Back when I was reading these I wasn’t over my aversion to DNF but I could only push myself this far.

Characters don’t feel real to me. The plot/mystery of things is pretty good but I can’t get past his terrible characterization of women.

This one feels like Dresden in high gear: duels, mysteries, assassins, and religious relics all crashing together. It’s darker than the earlier books, but also more epic in scale. At the same time, Harry’s trademark sarcasm and the new allies keep it from feeling too heavy.

So much happens in this book! Butcher foreshadowed so much. It is actually a little disjointed plot wise. The Red Court subplot needed more screen time to work better. All about the shroud and then let's take 10 minutes for this duel.
I love that the Denarians made an entrance. I enjoy the books with Denarians and Knights. I wish there was more Murph in this one. I kinda missed her.
Shiro had very little ‘screen time’ and yet he has left a hole in my heart. I've read this book so many times and still cry.

Dammit Harry

Better than the one before it I think. They are fun an the world is painted well. The mysteries and plots between the books is well done.

Edit to add: the book before has gone up in my opinion. But this one is still good. Establishes a lot of the action for the next couple of books in the series.
