Dolly Alderton’s writing is to me what Sally Roony’s writing is to many others. The way she writes about adulthood and heartbreak and feeling lost hits in such a way that you can’t believe she isn’t writing about you exactly. Ghosts remains my favorite of her books but this was quite heartbreaking and hopeful and lovely and real in its own right.
I feel obliged to write a review, simply because so many people I know *Tommy, cough* rated it 1 star. I think it’s at least worth 1 simply because of how ridiculous Andy was and how I really struggled to picture a man at all, but a woman’s perception of one (I would know). I know breakups suck, but can you do MORE self reflection? You know, like understanding that there clearly WAS a reason?
The last chapter really redeemed it, along with some mild humour and more-than-admittedly relatable comments throughout which kept me giggling. I did enjoy this one, so I can’t give it less than 3. For the comments above, I can’t give it more than 3…
Oh and how can I not talk about MORRIS? The best character, wanted to see more of that guy!

Ok I loved this??? Starts a bit slow, def has a different taste then I’m used to but kinda reminds me of the vibe that Mae Martin show on Netflix had. Really felt bad for Andy and how much bad luck he had but to get Jen’s POV at the end really tied it all together. So so so good.
