Broken Whispers

Neva Altaj

3.83 AVERAGE

i really enjoyed the premise of this mafia romance- she’s a former ballerina and was in an accident that pretty much ruined her vocal chords so she can’t talk. it has all the other mafia elements, mystery & arranged marriage PLUS he’s a dad?? hot- PLUS he wears an eye patch and has scars and burns all over?? hot
only thing i wasn’t crazy about was the writing style, it was very short and formal feeling but considering how the book isn’t a traditional length novel, it didn’t feel that much shorter

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I honestly didn't know what I expected reading this book, but I'm glad I did. I love Neva's theme of broken heros, but heros that haven't turned cruel to everyone. I think Mikhail is a perfect example of that.

Bianca and Mikhail are forced into a marriage as a peace treaty between the Russians and Italians. But luckily Mikhail has loved Bianca from afar for a while now.

Mikhail is the "information extractor" for the Russian Bratvha. So yes, he tortures people. But other than the people he tortures he's not a cruel person. Several times in the story he describes himself as a monster due to the scars left behind from the tortures he himself endured. But Bianca never sees him as one.

Bianca is the second daughter to the Italian mafia, she's a dancer that due to an accident can no longer dance. She's also mute, due to her vocal codes being damaged while a teenager. Bianca having grown up with a monster of a father knows a monster when she sees one. For her Mikhail is a protector. A person to hold her when she needs it and love her as she is.

I absolutely loved this book and was laughing so much while reading it. The only thing I wish I'd seen was more of Lena and Bianca. Bianca is such a huge part of Mikhail's life and wish we could have seen more of a connection between Bianca and Lena.

This book was amazing and just like in Painted Scars, Neva Altaj shows us that love has no limits when with the right person.

I absolutely devoured this book. I love an age gap but add in a ruthless killer with a heart of gold?…. I’m sold!
It’s usually hard for me to continue with a series because I find myself getting bored often but this is one series I can guarantee that I’ll be continuing.

I really, really enjoyed reading about Bianca and Mikhail! I loved Bianca’s character and the way she wasn’t afraid to go after what she wants, which in this case is her arranged husband. And something about a stoic, emotionally scarred MMC gets me every time !⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡.                                                               While the book isn’t heavily plot driven, it didn’t bother me at all due to the fact that the main characters are all so diverse and unique in their own way. I definitely enjoyed it more than the first, even though I liked that one as well.

3.25 / 5 ⭐️Ahhhhh there was NOTHING SPECIAL about the book except she was mute and our guy has a little daughter literally the rest was a bit boring and cheesy

This was a cute, predictable and overall lovely story. It gave me everything I need in mafia romance. Unhinged, possessive and utterly pathetic man who is finished for him woman. I love the fact that the MMC is not your conventionally, handsome man. Nothing gets me more than a character who thinks they’re unloveable and then finding a partner who loves them wholeheartedly with all their imperfections. Will definitely be continuing this series.
