SCUM Manifesto

Valerie Solanas

3.69 AVERAGE

a psychological analysis of my father and/or dominatrix diatribe

Timely!

Transphobic
reflective tense fast-paced

Last few pages Impressed me in many ways! lucid, but my suspicions of terf values were not completely dissolved. I found her manifesto to be too reliant on freud… like that was the only thing she paid attention to in her psych degree.

The introduction also did not feel accurate. Theres an attempt to paint this manifesto as not exactly anti-man, but anti-ethics-of-man… but this quickly falls apart every time solanas brings up sperm banks

SCUM says fuck DJs LOLLL
challenging dark funny reflective fast-paced

Genius and psychotic work! If you’ve always felt that there was no place for your female rage, you will find that Solanas has plenty of room for you and every other woman who is infuriated by patriarchy.

Solanas did nothing wrong

This was interesting lol. Gotta take it all with a grain of salt. I know she was entirely serious, but she was also very very hurt. I wish the world didn't fail Valerie like I wish the world didn't fail millions and millions and millions of women everywhere all the time.

"Just as humans have a prior right to existence over dogs by virtue of being more highly evolved and having a superior consciousness, so women have a prior right to existence over men. The elimination of any male is, therefore, a righteous and good act, an act highly beneficial to women as well as an act of mercy."

fast-paced

i was writing a big long review for this reread of SCUM about the interesting definitional moves that were made in late 60s lesbianism and it’s parallels in 2020s discourse but my phone glitched out and i’m not about to do it again.

SCUMs important you should read if only for the experience
