Pretty decent. Probably my least favorite book by Murata so far, but not terrible. The stories mostly revolved around food and the way it interacts with people. Some of my favorite stories were “Eating the City”, “Two’s Family”, and “Hatchling”. I especially like how the author can mix messages into freaky stories that make your skin crawl! There were also some heart-warming tales in here, and some ones about interesting family dynamics. This was a pretty short read, and good if you especially enjoy Sayaka Murata’s other books.

Some of the stories had endings that felt a little unfinished to me, but this was a thought-provoking and intriguing read, if a little disturbing at times, diving into topics like cannibalism and appreciating smells of things normally considered revolting. Prepare to be challenged on what you've accepted as "normal."

this was honestly gross to read at times and then made no sense at other times. a few of the stories had the potential to be interesting and to have good social commentary but it was easily overshadowed by the gross stories
