Oh, Sayaka Murata. 

This was another weird one as to be expected. Not all the stories were winners to me but I always appreciate the running theme of letting you freak flag fly and marching someone else’s freak. 

A Magnificent Spread and Hatchling were my favorites of this collection. 

I’m excited and concerned to read what Murata writes next.

Stories that transport you to a weird place, with recurring concepts and themes relating to bodily autonomy, sex and relationships, and positioning within the world.

Stand-outs for me were “Puzzle” and the titular “Life Ceremony”.
