Lights Out

Okay, I can overlook certain liberties taken with the sport to fit the story, but some things are just not possible and way too unrealistic.
I also felt like it all happened too fast. I would've liked to see their relationship develop more throughout the season
instead of already being in love before the first race

Thank you to LoveNotes PR for sending me an e-arc in exchange for honest review! I really really enjoyed this book, it was fast paced, exciting and the romance was gorgeous.

Our mc’s become friends first because they’re in a forced proximity situation. We have a damaged hero, a woman in f1 and they’re teammates!! There’s also the caretaker trope, a fuck it kiss and let me tell you the physical touch girlies WIN!! There’s so much physical touch I die. AND no third act breakup.

I don’t want to spoil anything but there’s some fucking adorable race traditions that they do and it made me scream. You can tell these characters have a genuine connection and it’s really believable.

The F1 element is done perfectly. It’s user friendly with a list of essential definitions at the front and I feel if you haven’t watched the sport before you could absolutely follow along and enjoy it. As an F1 fan I was sufficiently fed. The racing is accurate, exciting and is really visual in your head. It’s clear Kayla is an actual fan and knows her stuff. Theres also articles and podcasts that help tell the F1 side of the story and give more context and information in a fun way. Hats off!!

I think with some edits this could be an even better book. Our FMC Blake is very clumsy and I think it’s an attempt to make her endearing, funny and more human - but it missed the mark with me personally. The incessant tripping and falling over got old fast. She’s an F1 driver!! Also she keeps saying things out loud without realising which is a personal peeve of mine because that does not happen.
This book is VERY fast paced which was great, I loved how it never got boring. However some bits - especially one MAJOR MAJOR event - were skipped over and I would’ve loved to see more detail!! I don’t often ask for more pages but in this case I am.

All in all a great book, highly recommend!
