This book was really good. The cover and the blurb in the front flap had me expecting something more humorous, but this was just a good solid story. Sad. Poignant. Yet hopeful, too.

This was a worthy but difficult read on a few levels. It is worth reading because of the insights it offers into someone who has Alzheimer's disease and the richness Rutledge is able to instill into Faith's character. The variety of the strong supporting characters is noteworthy but it is annoying to jump back into each one's memories randomly. I was sometimes eager to skim but kept reading because each of the memories enhanced the world Faith came from. This is not a book for everyone but it is a book that many will enjoy.

A debut novel that spans across the last day of Faith Bass Darling's long and complicated life. Locked in her Texas mansion of antiques, Faith Bass Darling decides to sell it all!!! Covering her front lawn with priceless treasures and money hidden in odd places, Faith questions her life and what it all meant. Enter the long banished daughter, Claudia and a story unfolds of a family torn apart by grief. Redemption and healing deem this story a worthy read.

This book was an absolute mess. The writing style was clunky, the story flipped between times and was extremely hard to follow, and the plot was just plain annoying. This book was just not for me.

Loved. Really loved. A lot. Literary. Compelling. A bit different. Worth reading.

Faith Bass Darling, the small Texas town's hermit millionaire, hears the voice of God telling her to have a yard sale. So she hauls all her antiques, cherished and beloved through the years, out onto her lawn and starts selling them for pennies. A good yarn about small towns, end of life choices, family tragedies--sort of Fannie Flagg-ish in tone. Good read, good characters. Oh, and it takes place on December 31, 1999, which is a nice touch.

Equal parts sad and humor.
