Very fun and also surprisingly emotional?
I almost cried at the end during Rachel’s mom’s little speech 🥹
If you like the movie, I think you’ll like the book, but it’s also different enough to keep you on your toes. I had a lot of fun reading this and I love love love Rachel and Astrid.

I've put off reading this book because I rarely read Adult Fiction nowadays. However, due to constant recommendations from my closest friends, I've decided to give it a go. And I'm so glad I did!

I've never known deep Chinese traditions and other lifestyles of rich people in Singapore. To be honest this was a book where learned a lot and at the same time enjoyed the actual storyline. It was a good appreciation to old Chinese families and their traditions; some were funny because even if I have Chines friends, they live here in Manila and most of them don't carry out these kinds of lifestyle anymore.

I loved Rachel for being true to herself despite everything! Also, it was such a refreshing way to see how there are rich people who wouldn't disclose their wealth and lineage so easily. I understand that there were hints of internal competition between the 3 families but somehow, I admired the trait where the children were taught to be discreet and down to Earth.

I do have one problem about it, I didn't really enjoy the background of Rachel's family. I knew Kevin Kwan wanted a different twist since I'm sure a lot of people expected that Rachel would suddenly be coming from a rich family and it would be easier for the Youngs to accept her. However, I find the background quite unfitting for everything that's happened in the book already. It's quite comfortable and a little too shallow. It seemed a bit forced, like leading readers to believe that his father was jailed, no one would have expected that she was born out of an affair. It's a minor comment about this book, but I'm definitely continuing on with the series since I'll easily get over this matter of Rachel's true lineage.

Very entertaining. Literally CRAZY reading how the rich Asians spend (or not) their money. It was a bit of a soap opera, but in a good way. What bothered me was the fact that at the end of the book I still didn't understand what was the big deal about the mighty Youngs.

After hearing so many great reviews of [b:Crazy Rich Asians|16085481|Crazy Rich Asians (Crazy Rich Asians, #1)|Kevin Kwan|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1364852559s/16085481.jpg|21571970], I finally decided to read it before seeing the movie.

The best part of the book is how funny it is - especially the little asides in the footnotes. There are several interesting threads throughout the book and I found I was mostly drawn to the Rachel drama, Astrid's character, and the descriptions of extravagant houses, clothes, and events.

Now I'm excited to read the other books in the series. Kwan could have easily left this book as a cliffhanger, but I'm glad he didn't because I would have gone crazy waiting to find out what happened.
