Very practical, ready to use guideline for nurturing a meaningful long-term relationship
This had some great information that I found easily applicable in some situations and a little harder in others. But we know marriage isn’t a cake walk so it deserves a little work put in. I’m about to reread it already with my husband this time. I did the audio this time but we have the paperback to work through together so I might add to this review then. As I said, some great info here, though I didn’t always enjoy the author’s attitude.
This book is such an intriguing read. Gottman’s take on conflict completely changed my perspective on what it takes to have a happy marriage. I also loved reading the many different observations he made during his studies in the “love lab”.
informative
Great resource for people actually in relationships, but a bit less helpful for my thesis than I would have liked. I will definitely refer back to this whenever I am in a relationship, though.

A fantastic book laying out the common issues that can develop in a marriage and how to recognize them, work through them, and enrich your relationship with your partner. This includes learning how to deal with differences that may be long term in the relationship. I so wish we had been given this book during our marriage counseling instead of the trash book our pastors had us read at the time. (That's right His Needs Her Needs, I'm talking to you...) Do yourself a favor regardless of where you are in your relationship and check this book out.

This one was recommended by my psychologist. And not only was it useful in a very practical and positive way, but it was also a great read. I mean really, who doesn’t love to read scientific findings presented in a fun and consumable way that relates directly to real life? Great read and has given me lots to think on in my own marriage.
4.2/5: love the gottmans! Love that they use actual scripts and examples
