Based on the theory that intimately knowing your partner in every way (yes, including all those scary things you don't want to share) is one of the keys to making your marriage work. There are some really good exercises that help you touch base on current situations but also going back to your past to discover more about each other.

Completed this as a couple and we really enjoyed this. The last piece - on rituals and traditions was especially good. Thinking about how we want mornings, dinner time, sick days, holidays and other events to be was really good and timed well with our Christmas.

I liked almost all of the exercises and learned we learned a lot from this book. Well worth it.

All the stars. This is an amazing book about how to appreciate your partner and build a connected life with them.

While starting to read this book felt daunting and intimidating, I always felt better each time I picked it up. This book contains so much insightful and actionable information. I read it all the way through without completing the exercises. Now I want to go back through a printed version a spend time doing each exercise and activity. Your marriage doesn’t have to be in crisis to read this book. There’s always room for improvement, and reviewing this book will yield positivity and inner perspective if you’re open to it. I highly recommend giving it a read.

Very heterosexual, but the messages are still good for partners of any gender. I have really enjoyed figuring myself out a little better to improve the relationships I have.

Personally, I am unwed, but chose to utilize this book for a project in a counseling class that I am taking. And, in all honesty, I plan to keep this book in case I need it for the future, not just to let it sit on my bookshelf. Gottman is the guru of marriages. Plain and simple. He has been doing his work for many years and has become very intuitive into the art of marriage. This book has the outstanding quality, I feel, of allowing the couple that is seeking some aid by both giving instruction and examples, but giving directions and exercises to help strengthen your marriage. Gottman provides guidelines for every exercise and this allows for progress within the comfort of your own home, if there is one thing or another preventing the couple from attending formal counseling. The only reason I give just 3 stars is because I have not implemented this in my own life (as I am unwed), but it did help give me guidelines for my own relationship to help improve it, but I have not utilized the exercises either.

Definitely need a physical copy. And perhaps a reading partner. There is so much to turn BACK to!

I heard about this book from a class and I'm so glad I started reading (listening on audible) to it. It only took me 6 months to finish it because there was that much information to digest. I wouldn't mind picking up the book and thumbing through it, because listening to it was hard for all the questionnaire parts. It really had a lot of interesting parts not just for marriage, but all types of healthy relationships you want to foster in your life.

Update: I did pick up the book, and I'd totally 100% recommend reading it over listening to it on Audible.

Good book, lots of exercises and activities! Will prob reread at some point!
