At first I thought it was a funny story but quickly realised a lot of it is poignant and sad, with a lot of humour thrown in.
Translated from the Dutch it is set in an Amsterdam old people's home and the diary format reveals the daily petty indignities of institutional living; stupid rules, petty squabbles and worries of declining health and finances.
Yet a small group decide to form a social gang to fight back with trips meetings and friendship. Very touching in places there is a lot that made me laugh despite the sadness of the gang's decline. They will go down fighting.
