Well… late stage capitalism is a nightmare! And this book captured that so well! So many interesting character dynamics at play and a fun angle to the reality show book genre. It got a little slow for me in the middle, but I think it ultimately made for a more satisfying ending. There was a certain unreality and surreal feeling to the whole book, an undercurrent of horror-level dread that never was quite explained because our narrator was so focused on material rewards and staying at the compound, which of course is not at all relevant to how many of us live today. I thought this was deceptively clever while remaining an engaging late summer beach read. I really had a good time and think it will make for a good book club discussion!
