This was genuinely a captivating premise that I don't think was executed that well. The first 70% was super interesting but the ending was kind of all over the place and did not totally land cleanly. Also our MC was... just kind of off and not in a way that always felt intentional. But major points for concept - and it really went there sometimes.

I really loved this book. Lily is an interesting narrator for me. I both liked and disliked her throughout the book. I pitied her for how she viewed herself and her life and respected her for her being honest with herself about who she was at various moments. She both disappointed me and made me proud. I really connected and identified with her on her feelings around her life circumstances. I mostly wanted to give her a long hug. The world in this book is creepy and also uncomfortably familiar in many ways. Overall, well worth venturing outside my usual genres!

The premise of this book is very interesting. The game show itself reminds me of a combination of Love Island, Big Brother, and Survivor (all shows I’ve enjoyed). The characters were interesting enough but I didn’t particularly like our protagonist. I found myself occasionally switching between rooting for and against her. The background characters were interesting enough. I’d definitely recommend this book.
