Book 2 in the series. One of those romances that always has something heartbreaking in it, in this case
the death of Lily’s father right before opening night
. And feels a bit heavy on the “she must change for the guy, because she’s not living up to her full potential.”  I will probably keep reading the series, but not my favorite

Ms. Parker is new to me, and I'm looking forward to more from her! Witty, not too graphic, yet all the feels is a good combination.

Meh. May-December (more like May-September, really) romance, alpha-ish hero, not my jam.

Well-written, funny, touching... it surpassed my expectations of what seemed like just a fun plot. Just plain lovely overall.

Perhaps my expectations were too high after the wonderful surprise of [b: Act Like It|25750546|Act Like It (London Celebrities, #1)|Lucy Parker|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1437804753s/25750546.jpg|45592892], and this does have lots to offer contemporary romance fans. To reiterate what too often needs to be defended: three stars is still an "I liked it" book. It just wasn't the same degree of frothy fun for which I'd been saving this particular read. I was ready for effortless escapism with witty banter and deferred sexual tension, and this story seemed either a shadow or a wannabe of the qualities most celebrated in the author's debut.

Not to damn with faint praise, this isn't a bad book. It has elements enjoyed by both the casual romance reader as well as self-identified enthusiasts. As I scan other reviews, there are crowds who disagree that this is in any way a let-down. However, for me, I wanted more real connection between the characters, less inflation (oh, please, so MUCH less) of the age-difference issue, which honestly would bat nary an eye. Yes, the minefield of director (boss)/cast member (employee) was a more real dilemma, but it seemed too easily waved away as the way of the world - which begs the question then why lay the groundwork if you aren't prepared to deal with it as an actual issue. All my various criticisms are intended to illuminate is that there could have been a story here to rival the first in cleverness, real-life relationship issues, and earned satisfaction. This just wasn't quite it. I believe in this author, and I look forward to sampling her next. I will, however, be hoping for more of the freshness, heat, play, and smarts of her first.

I liked this, but not nearly as much as Act Like It. I think my expectations might have been too high, because Act Like It took me by surprise by how much I loved it. I don't even really have any major complaints, it's more just that this wasn't the type of romance that I tend to get really invested in. One thing that I can think of that really bothered me was the lack of romantic build up between the two leads. Now believe me when I say that this book manages to be a slow burn romance while simultaneously becoming insta love after the first make out session. I was really enjoying this book up until the sex scenes to be honest because they were very mild and almost lacked chemistry which was strange since I do believe Lily and Luc had good chemistry during dialogue.
Overall, I still enjoyed it a lot, I just didn't fall in love with it like I'd hoped I would.
