Was I stressed reading this because of our sweet girl Maddies money and trust issues? Yes but Seth was SUCH A LOVELY LOVE INTEREST. Super fun idea and an adorable read!!
I read another YA book about a new 18-year-old winning the lottery (Teddy was the boy, can't remember the title) and this one was much better. Maddie goes a little crazy but I can't blame her.
2.5 stars.
This was pretty cute (isn't everything by Kasie West?) and bubblegum. The main character, Maddie, buys a lottery ticket on her 18th birthday and proceeds to win millions of dollars. So of course everything things and everyone treats her differently. Except for Seth, her crush who she works with at the zoo. My favorite parts of the book were when she was with him because she never actually tells him she won the money. They just flirt like two dorky teens would.
She is pretty stupid when it comes to the money though. Some people are obviously using her and she just falls for the dumbest stuff. 1000 dollars for pants? Yikes. An expensive car? Cliche. She should have gotten a financial advisor IMMEDIATELY instead of waiting til over halfway through the book. She makes some teenager mistakes but it all works out for them in the end.

This is my least favourite Kasie West book to date which breaks my heart. I don't think I've ever given any of her books less than 4 stars, but I did not like Lucky in Love one bit (okay only a very little bit).
I just found the main character to be a little too naive to be believable about her lottery win. And why the ship had potential, there was simply not enough pages invested in it for me to actually invest in it.
I'm still a fan and hope the next couple of her books I've got on my to-be-read will be winners.

Yes! I do enjoy a great Kasie Best book in the summer!
My least favorite Kasie West book. If you've never read her books, make sure this is not the first.
I feel like Kasie West books are hit or miss for me. All of the ones I read I didn’t enjoy but the ones I’ve listened to, I’ve really enjoyed. I was so excited to download this book on audible. Right from the beginning I didn’t like the premise. A teenager winning the lottery? Not very realistic. I could look past that though because I knew that was what the book was about. What automatically put me off is what happened once she won the money. Her parents told her to consult with a financial advisor but didn’t make sure that she did. She is still a child given 50 million dollars and you don’t make sure your teenager goes and speaks to someone about what to do with her money?
The way she also was just throwing around her money just because others told her that is what people do with money was ridiculous. The party? The car? Paying $1000 for a high school band to play at your yacht party? Seriously? How does that sound reasonable? Paying a kid $100 just so he doesn’t jump off the boat? It’s insane to me.
Another thing that bothered me was how easily she just trusted people she never talked to in her life or payed her any attention. She gets money and all of a sudden the popular kids want to be her friend? Uh no. She shouldn’t have accepted anyone that wasn’t in her life before she won the lottery. Which brings us to the shady uncle that rarely talks to the family asking for a $500,000 investment in a real estate property? And her parents allow that? She gets the contract from said shady uncle and doesn’t even read it. She just signs it and sends it back. And her parents allow her to do THAT? For someone that is at the top of her class she sure was pretty stupid where her money is concerned.
Something else that bothered the hell out of me was her brother. He gambled all of his money away leaving his sister to pay for his new upscale lifestyle and she doesn’t think to say anything to her parents? I just don’t understand why she wouldn’t have said anything.
I know she is a high school senior and I know she is still a child but I found her very naive and was annoyed with pretty every decision she made from the beginning of the story through the very end. Finally in the last chapter she doesn’t what she should have done at the beginning of the book. I think I have come to the conclusion that Kasie West books might not be for me.
