I wanted to love this, but just didn't. I *much* preferred Sittenfeld's later book, "The Man of My Dreams."

It was an interesting read, but the main character really bothered me. She was so insecure with herself that she never stood up for what she really wanted.

An extremely relatable coming of age story

One of the most relatable portrayals of being a teenage girl that I’ve ever read. I didn’t go to boarding school or private school, but so many of the protagonist’s observations and inner monologues evoked a strikingly familiar sense of my own teenage years and school days.

I didn't like the main character so I had a hard time empathizing....and I work at a prep school. Hmmmm.....

Awful, horrible, terrible, I kept reading only in the hopes that it would get better, but it never did and now, years after reading this, I still remember how much I hated it!

I first read this book in high school and have spent the rest of my life thinking it was one of my favorites. Until now lol. I cannot believe I related so much to the main character back then - it’s really sent me in an existential crisis haha. She was so judgmental, self-centered, and neurotic!

I guess this book captures what it’s like to be in high school but dang no clue if I enjoyed any part of it.
