I had been waiting to start this spin off series because I absolutely loved the MK books. I was a bit worried at the beginning of this one that it wouldn’t live up to MK and her boys, but by the middle of it I fell in love with these characters and am so happy to be back in Shadow Grove.

I will say I don’t feel as connected yet to this story but I love that there is another mystery and that we are hearing a lot about the old characters. If anyone’s interested in reading these I 100% rec the Maddison Kate series to be read first! I now need to buy the rest of these books

Okay, yes, sure, I did have my doubts going in to this new series. But holy fuck, I do not regret it for one single second.

Hades being a woman was such a huge plot twist for me, haha. But you know what, she's so fucking badass, I'm super jealous. She's so freaking cool, to the fact that I may be more in love with her than the intended mmcs.

I love how she has this soft spot for Lukas. And also Zed. And playing hard (I mean, really hard) to get with Cass. I'm so excited how this series is going to turn out, because this first book was such a bomb. Wink wink. Lol.

Okay so….I did finish this one even though I was getting annoyed but ended up DNF the second in the series.

Hades was not likable in the slightest. She’s too big for her britches to me and not believable as this bad ass femme fatale killer mafiosa at all. I don’t know if I’m missing something??

But her story is completely unrealistic! She’s 23! And talks about being engaged at 18 and going to a “killer” camp as a kid and then spending time in Tibet for mediation? Like what??? What kind of person?? This was my first Tate James so maybe I started with the wrong series because I’m not understanding how she could be like this.

It starts off with her at a bar, pissed because she got rejected by another gang leader that she confessed her love to, then meets another guy at the bar and bangs him in a storage closet. THEN, said gang leader sees her next day and she allows him to kiss her??? Even though she was “sooo embarrassed and angry at him for rejecting her” and when he gives NO explanation whatsoever as to why he rejected her. And she just accepts it!! Like some naive high school girl! I thought she was supposed to be experienced with life and things??

*huffs*

There were times where she was tolerable and others where she talked and had inner monologues like she was written by a man talking about “what her c*nt needed” or or something. No woman thinks like that! I finally had enough and had to stop.

Perhaps I’ll try her MK series, maybe that MC will be more tolerable. I’m willing to give the author another try but not with this character.

Very different setting to MK, and starting off with one hell of a badass character Hades. She is the man. Love that her employee's all call her sir as a sign of respect, it does something for me. The struggle she has between always needing to be an invincible force and needing to let it all shed away and feel human. My heart yearned for the slow build tension with Cass and awareness of Zed. And the love Hades holds for her sister above all else? Made my chest feel tight.
Tate James definitely knows how to end a story with a cliffhanger, and not knowing where Lucas is or how hurt he may be had my breathing stop. Also the small crumbs of information about Hades and her ex-fiance that alluded to what he may have done to her has me on the edge of my seat until I know the whole truth.
