I haven't read dark romance books in years and I wanted to try the thrill again, and moved by the many positive reviews this book has. But tbh, its not even good for reading p4rn scenes, which are like 3 I think, and not that well written.
The main character is a 23y/o mega rich self-made mafia boss (already funny) who's ready to kill anyone that goes against her. The overall world that the author created is unrealistic so the book should be taken as such, but it's impossible IMO to overcome the bad writing, the superficiality of the knowledge of anything that the author describes (the mafia environment, the supposed rich houses and locations and objects, he'll, even the s6x scenes). Also the overall cringe and so obvious plot developments, they make it seem like the soft p4rn books that my grandma use to buy at the newsstand were masterpieces. Surely will not delve into the saga

"Yes, you did. I was just too late."

Honestly, this book was just lukewarm to me. The main character was supposed to be this badass gang leader, but I feel that it was mostly just tell and no show. I was bored for most of the book. I only cared about the one love interest, but he wasn't even present in the story really, just little snippets. The last 10% of the book were good and it ended on a cliffhanger, but I don't think I even care enough to continue on with the series. Just a flop compared to her Madison Kate series (which was a fantastic series).

Holy sh*t. This book starts off with a bang and doesn’t slow down. I love the cross overs from the MK series. DO NOT start this book (or any book by this author) unless you have time for a full fledged 4 book binge. You will not be able to stop.

SPOILERS!!!!!
Okay I refuse to believe the same person who wrote the madison kate series wrote this. She kinda ate down with this series. I hope that I don’t regret these words ,but considering how much MK annoyed me Hades is the complete opposite. Finding out that Lucas was the high schooler Seph was crushing on was HILARIOUS, but I fear I am scared to see how she is going to find out. The fact that she doesn’t realize Zedd is in love with her is wild like I wish I could be as delusional as her. Finding out that her dead fiance's grave was empty and he’s probably still alive was a wild twist which I kinda saw coming ,but I think would have been crazier if there was a body in there and someone else was just as obsessed with her.

This is my first introduction to Tate James, and I’m pretty impressed. Even though this is connected to the Madison Kate series, going in blind like I did was still easy to do. You’re aware that you’re missing some background but it’s not detrimental to this current story which is super appreciated.
To be honest I didn’t realize this was a contemporary romance until I started. (my bad lol) Normally it’s not my vibe but I ended up liking it! The writing was done well, and everything felt realistic but not overly drawn out or enhanced. I loved seeing Hades as the epitome of power and watching her work her way through problems she faced was empowering. There’s tons of action with mafia violence and power struggles, not to mention more than one plot twist but all work well with the story balance out the touchy-feely parts.
Speaking of spice…… It is so good! There’s heavy heat tender moments, slow burn, and oh so good enemies to lovers. I now understand why Tate is such a popular writer for this genre. Consider me influenced to pick up her other series now
