Do you love a modern-day Austen retelling??? SAME.
I. ATE. THIS. UP.
I mean, I was kind of pre-destined to love this, but I looooved it. It was so charming and fun and fresh while still familiar. And it had a bit of spice! I honestly can’t believe I waited this long to read it.

I. Love. Pride. And. Prejudice. Retellings.

This one was super fun. I struggle sometimes with characters and stories that have a lot of references to social media, but for this story it was necessary.

I think what I enjoy so much about retellings is I know what’s going to happen and I know it’s going to be DELIGHTFUL. Now I get to read somebody retell the story in a more modern era with diverse characters and it’s just a fun time.

FUCK WIC AND COLIN OBVIOUSLY.

I also appreciated that this story didn’t just lean into the “slow-burn-enemies-to-lovers” thing the OG story has going on. They also told the story of the class system and women’s role in our world….which is exactly what the OG story is actually about….just with lots of yearning thrown in for funsies.

I’ve got another retelling ready to go but I need to read some other library books first lol.

I really wanted to like this. I love P&P and had read some many good things but instead of modernizing this, I feel the author made so many characters into negative stereotypes. For example, Mrs. Bennet does behave poorly in P&P but at least it was rooted in societal expectations for women of the gentry to marry well. In this version, Bev is shallow, gold digging and casually racist for no reason. She's just a bad person.
