This was a good modern adaptation of P&P.
I really liked the improvement on Mary's character. Maurice was a great substitute for Mary.
The book just seemed to lag a bit in the middle, then all the bigger events happened in the last 100 pages.
I don't know if it's just my Libby app, but the texts were formatted a little weird and I don't know who was texting who.
Mainly this Darcy (Dorsey) is an actual nice man. I don't think he's like Mr Darcy at all so I can't say this was an outright modern adaptation; Darcy started off P&P being a genuine asshole. He was misunderstood a bit, but he was haughty, but Dorsey wasn't as bad. He had his moments at the start, but he was more socially awkward than prideful.
All in all this was a good read, but it could have been cut down in parts.

Nikki Payne strikes again! I love the way she writes complex family dynamics, class/socioeconomic conflict, and relationships building. Liza and Dorsey’s perspectives were both out of reach based on my socioeconomic background (although I am Black so I could relate to Liza a lot more) I still felt like I knew and understood them intimately. And I felt the same about the characters in her second book too. I also love that they had valid and realistic unrequited love. Also the family and other side characters brought plenty of comedy and frustrations, equally. LOVED IT!!

I really wasn't into the first half but got very into the second half. The second half was cute, the romance felt like it had really built, and the human challenges felt very fair and authentic to the MCs. The first half was just...boring?

I will give the author props for following the original very well. However, this was not my favorite. My biggest issue was that the love interests were so far in the opposite direction of each other that I can't picture them realistically ever going from enemies to lovers. They also kept saying truly awful things to each other that I couldn't imagine them every getting past.
