London, 1941. Amid the falling bombs Emmeline Lake dreams of becoming a fearless Lady War Correspondent. Unfortunately, Emmy instead finds herself employed as a typist for the formidable Henrietta Bird, the renowned agony aunt at Woman’s Friend magazine. Mrs Bird refuses to read, let alone answer, letters containing any form of Unpleasantness, and definitely not those from the lovelorn, grief-stricken or morally conflicted.
But the thought of these desperate women waiting for an answer at this most desperate of times becomes impossible for Emmy to ignore. She decides she simply must help and secretly starts to write back – after all, what harm could that possibly do?
This book was definitely not what I was expecting when I originally picked it up to read it. It was thoughtful, and it definitely dealt with a different experience of someone during that time who just wanted to help.

What a delightful book! Yes, it's about WW2 so it's not all sunshine and rainbows, but if you could find a silver lining and something to be cheerful about during a war, Emmeline and her friends will find it.
This was a ton of fun to read--the language, the expressions, the silliness... The MC had a wonderfully quirky way of describing people and situations in her head, and I do love a girl who isn't afraid of a bit of subterfuge in the name of the greater good.
It wasn't all upbeat, of course--this is war. There were some tear jerking moments, when friendships are tested and tragedy rains down on everyone's heads (literally). But through it all, there's the hope for better times and the determination to see things through to the end, doing the best you can even when it breaks your heart.
Recommended for fans of 'light' WW2 historical fiction, women working hard behind the scenes, and plucky, cheerful MCs.

I really enjoyed this book! WWII historical fiction is probably my favorite genre. I really loved the characters, the plot, all of it! I love someone taking a stand for what they feel is right. An overall excellent read!
