Great airport read. Set in a part of history I hadn't looked at from the civilian perspective. Happy ending! I love happy endings!

I enjoyed this book a lot. It was humorous and lighthearted but also conveyed the difficulties and heartbreaks of life in London during the Blitz. I loved the story line, the characters were well developed, and the dialogue and expressions felt like they were straight from 1940’s England.

Más tipo 3.5 estrellas. Es una lectura amena y entretenida llena de corazón y sentimiento de ayudar a las personas cuando otras los ignoran .

I enjoyed the historical setting of this book but wasn't really that interested in the story.

Dear Mrs. Bird by AJ Pearce was an absolute delight! This had been on my TBR since it was a Skimmreads recommendation, and I can’t believe it took me this long to read it! Emmy was an absolute doll and I adored everything about her. Her smarts and resilience make her a bad ass of her time, and I couldn’t love her more. Throw in some accurate language of the era and you have yourself a great book!

Most historical fiction seems to focus on the end of WWII but this one takes place right in the thick of it all. Not only does Emmy work for a magazine, she also volunteers at her local fire station. I couldn’t imagine taking calls from people who have had their homes bombed. It had to be an absolutely terrifying time. The war itself though plays a much bigger plot in the story than I expected. I thought it would be more about Emmy and her letter writing, but it was so much more.

Everyone deserves a friend like Bunty, and Emmy is lucky to have her. I loved Bunty’s voice of reason. The two ladies complimented each other perfectly. My heart broke for Bunty when some pretty terrible things happen, but was so pleased with how she came around. I had to contain a squeal while reading the last few chapters. Pearce nailed the dynamic of female friendship and developed two very lovable characters.

This book was less than 300 pages and a very quick read. There was much less focus on the letter writing than I had anticipated. Had we gotten even more sample letters, and more of Emmy replies, I would of loved this book even more. I was also hoping for Charles to come back and have a few more chapters before the book ended. Him and Emmy were so precious, and I couldn’t get enough of the two of them!

Highly recommend this one for WWII historical fiction lovers. This was just the book I needed during these crazy times.
