I just happened to start this book the day Prince Phillip died so it was very appropriate timing, even though the individual royal family members don't play a huge part.

I thought the story was very well told. I loved the storyline when Ann and Miriam were young women. I did think that Jeremy being a jerk and rapist was not foreshadowed...I was very taken by surprise. On the other hand Miriam and Walter's relationship was lovely and I wish we could have met them when they were older. I also wished we had met Ann when she was older.

I loved the detail of the work environment and how the embroiderers were so proud and detailed with their work. I could picture it in my mind as I could Miriam's artwork. I appreciated that Ann made sure to acknowledge that what Miriam was starting was truly art...that art doesn't have to be sculpture or paintings.

Lastly, I liked the development of Heather and Daniel's relationship. I did think it moved kind of fast but I also feel that because of their automatic connection it made sense.

3. 75 stars. This one was pretty good. An easy read that included some substantial elements but didn't beat the reader over the head. Heavy topics including the Holocaust, rape, and post-war mentalities. I enjoyed the time period surrounding the making of the dress and found the modern day sections to be a bit contrived but useful in wrapping up the stories of Ann and Miriam.
