I wanted to be mad because this is so long, but I was just too interesting
4/5
I originally picked up this book because I saw it in an episode of Mindhunter, and I had no idea it would be so long. It took me a minute to get through but it was really interesting even though I’m not a big true crime reader. I didn’t know much about this case, and every little detail made it that much more devastating and disturbing.

my undergrad abnormal psychology professor recommended this to me! super detailed. super insane. gave me the heebie jeebies. i actually appreciate that it read more like a detailed case study than a story of the murders. while it did give all the facts of the case, i am still interested more in the psychology behind his actions, and how his followers were so enraptured by him.
What a book to start 2021 with.
A slow but fascinating read about the life of Manson, the atrocities committed by him and his followers and the long but interesting trial of the 'Manson Family'. Meticulously written, this is without a doubt the book for those who are looking for a single source about the Manson murders. Helter Skelter is an iconic book as well as an excellent historical document!

This book is definitely worth the read and very well structured. At times, it is graphic and horrific, enough to keep me up at night if I made the mistake of reading it when I was home alone late at night. Bugliosi tells a whole comprehensive story, from start to finish of what happened and how we found out the whole story of Manson and his "family." I recommend it to anyone with an interest in the legalities of the Manson case and how the law managed to catch Manson and imprison him.
